Microsoft Office Alternatives | Free Office Tools From OpenOffice

Labels:

This post will be talking primarily about how to stop paying the corporate companies the money that they don't need anymore. How much money do you think that Microsoft is making per year? Enough that Bill Gates was the richest man in the world for quite some time!

Lets think logically here. How much does it cost you to purchase a copy of the latest Microsoft Office software? Well, I can take the guess work out of the thinking process and simply tell you how much it cost. As of right now, August 31st. 2009, Microsoft Office is charging a whooping total of $99.00, and it is already marked down to 33% off. Not too bad for a software product that is already two years outdated!

Why do you think that Bill Gates would lose money if he bent down to pick up a $100.00 bill that he found on the ground? Because in that short minute that it took to bend down he would have made $555,187.00.

So, let us all stop paying for stuff that is already outdated to a guy that doesn't need the money. How many units do you think that he sells in that minute to make that godly money? I would guess roughly 5,551 units and that is by just moving the decimal over a two places. These numbers on the units sold per minute are solely to determine how many Microsoft would have to sell in order to pay good ol' Bill.

As for your alternative options that are available to you for a fraction of the price would be OpenOffice from www.OpenOffice.org. This program is technically free, but I suggest that you donate at least $5.00 to help the team to continue the progress with the free product. Even if you all converted to OpenOffice and had to pay $5.00 you would still be paying about 95% less then you would for the same "name brand" product.

OpenOffice contains everything that a person would need in order to survive small business, college, high school, personal, and even probably big business. This all in one client is a download that you install to your computer just like the regular Microsoft Office. The difference in the installation of the software is that you can download OpenOffice from the internet and just install it whereas you would insert a C.D. with Microsoft products.

This free version of Office provides the user many saving formats for all their files. I have found no compatibility problems with importing documents from all versions of Microsoft Office. I mean exactly to say that Microsoft Office has given me many issues and I have had to waste hours converting the files to the other version that I was trying to print from. So for the free version to have no issues is simply amazing to me.

Please visit www.OpenOffice.org for your free version of Microsoft Office.

A Cheap Home Phone Solution | Affordable Ways To Call From Home

Labels:

I am going to take the time to discuss a solution to the home phone problem. You may not think that there is a problem with your current home phone provider or service. However, there is definitely a big problem. Our country is in the heart of a recession and you guys are all spending way too much money per year on a phone that rarely get's used.

If you are not familiar with my blog site then you will be happy to know that I discuss ways to crunch your bills down and keep the same luxuries available. In a previous blog I discussed the possiblites of cutting out the home telephone altogether, but I am sure that some of you reader's did not like that idea.

This posting will talk about the product called Magic Jack as it could be the cheapest solution to your house phone needs. This setup is known as a V.O.I.P., Voice Over Internet Protocol, and this phone option is going to be the next standard in phone communciation for landlines.

Are you curious as to how this system works? If so, then continue to read and if not then I guess stop reading right now.

Alright, so you are still reading. So there are a number of ways to get your Magic Jack product. I know that Walgreens sells them right at the main counter. I know that you can order them via the internet, and for some of you watching infomercials during those late nights could order one via the T.V. So as you can see there is quite a few ways to get your hands on a Magic Jack.

You may be wondering how much this product cost and why you should switch from your land line to this new carrier. Well, here is the sweet spot of this blog.

The Magic Jack system only cost you $35.00 per year and it gives you the option to choose your number via the registration process. I bet you can see that value that I was talking about earlier. Some of you people reading this right now are thinking about how you pay $35.00 dollars a month for your home phone. You can imagine just how much you could save by paying for your home telephone service for the whole year with your $35.00 January bill alone.

This logic is true. If you could save 11 payments of $35.00 per year you could potentially be saving a total of $380 dollars per year. This may not sound like a lump sum, but think if you had this service for the last decade and saved all your savings in a savings account you would have over $3,500.00 dollars. The savings could be used a numerous ways, therefore I am not going to take the time to tell you how to spend your saved money. That part is up to you.

How it works is acutally quite simple. Your Magic Jack will require you to have a high speed internet connection available. I discussed this in a previous posting about how vital a fast web connection can be to saving you ton's of money in the long run. If you have a desktop computer you simply plug the Magic Jack into the USB port on your computer. (This can also plug into laptops, but it is designed to be stationary in a sense.) I recommend plugging it into a desktop that stays running or get's shut down at night.

Once you get your product plugged up all you will have to do is plug in your favorite cordless phone and then you have your telephone line. Once you call and register a number with the company for free, of course.

This was just another way to save money during this poor economy without losing your daily luxuries that you have grown so accustomed to. Thank you for reading this blog and I hope that I helped you in your quest to save more of your own money. If I have informed you how to keep more of your funds to yourself then please forward this information along to another individual that you know that needs help

Cellular Communication Vs. Landlines | Pro's and Con's

Labels:

Alright here we are again, but this time I am going to be discussing if you should disconnect your land line telephone or not.

This world that we live in today does not necessarily require everybody in it to own a land locked telephone. Unless you run/own or work inside of a business there is really no need to get phone service through your local cable provider. There are many other better solutions to your communication needs.

The ultimate adversary to the traditional means of communication would be to get a cellular device. About ten year's ago the cellular market took off. What I mean is that once human's hit a revolutionary mark in their history they tend to keep progressing. Now a day's almost every type of business that a person could work for will demand a cellular device to be carried by the employee.

What can be better then instant communication. Phones evolved into mobile devices such as how social networking is doing the same. First we had Myspace.com and then through the process of evolution and direct human engineering we now have Twitter.com. Look at how fast technology is growing and evolving.

Now, lets get back to topic and discuss cellular options vs. regular land line options. Some of the options that you can check into for service would be the obvious big carriers such as Sprint, Verizon, Att, and Us Cellular. I am more then positive that there are many other big name carriers, but I only mentioned a few. Then there are two main competitor's to the big carriers. These options would be MetroPCS or Cricket, and the service provided completely depends on where you live within America.
What is the difference between the big name carriers and the MetroPCS or Cricket Providers?
The biggest difference between the two set's of companies would be the search volume of calls that the client will be able to place without excessive charges. Basically the MetroPCS and Cricket are pre-pay phones in the sense that you pay a month in advance. That way if you do not pay your bill the company is not out a single penny. This is why these companies do not have to do a credit check or have you pass a 10 point inspection just to get phone service. Not to mention that these two competitors provide the cheapest cellular service with unlimited phone calling when compared to any other phone companies out there.

The big name cellular providers usually require a deposit down on their phones per line. Especially if you do not have any type of credit. (Such types of people that may have no credit may be recent high school graduates or drop outs. College enrolled students or full time Mom's and Dad's can also be a source for the statistics. Just about anybody in this economy during this recession will have issues with getting credit extended to them.)

So know that we have discussed some of the cellular options let's go ahead and take a look into the landline options. Due to this being a regional decision based on the local land line communication company we are unable to provide many details other then the simple facts.

The simple facts are as follows:

  • Paying a monthly bill on a home phone can be pointless because that phone can not be portable.
  • If more then one person lives in your home with a cellphones then what is the need for the house to have a number?  I mean is it really necessary to have five numbers all routing to your house of residency?
  • If you do not use your house phone more then five times per day every day then is it worth the additional $20-30 per month every month?
  • Landlines usually charge an additional fee to call long distance. Cellular providers do not usually charge to call long distance unless you are calling cross continents. (I think that Cricket offer's free call's to Mexico though)
In short, I think it would be pointless to have a land line ran to your home unless you are planning on using it daily or have a fax machine that needs to be hooked up. (If it is the latter then I will take the time to write a blog that discusses options to save and additional $120-200 on that fax line per year.) Both phone types can call emergency numbers and both types can get a person in touch with another person. However, the land line phones are stuck where the cable company runs the wires to. A person would be constricted to their house in order to place a call.

These are just a few of the communication options that are available in today's world. I will write another blog discussing other options such as Skype, Google Voice, and one of my favorites Google Talk. Get Rid Of Cable | It Cost Too Much

Labels:

Yeah, you may be thinking that I am a little crazy right now for even saying to "Get rid of cable as it cost too much". You would have been correct in your thinking about two or three years ago. As of recent internet and technology evolution humans are able to steam media into their homes for limited cost.

The service that I am talking about is a couple of different ones. All of them will require an internet connection, but about everything that I will talk about on this site is going to require an internet connection some how or way.
"Why do I need to have an internet connection, and would that be defeating the purpose of saving money?" - This may be what you are thinking at this very moment. I will discuss internet options in another blog, but here is some basic reasoning behind why you need high speed internet.
My reasoning behind the necessity of an internet connection would be from the savings you will be making on everything else that you normally do with or without the internet connection. Almost ever family in America has at least one computer. Many families have multiple computers such as a desktop, laptop, a mini laptop, or one really nice smart phone/pda mobile computer device. The doctors office that my family has been using for the last decade has recently upgrade to touchscreen computers that they use like clipboards.

McDonalds has computer screens that type out your order back to you for easy communication purposes. Since about 1995 they have been putting computer sensors into cars so the mechanic has to simply plug in his computer screen and it will do a full diagnostics on the car's problems.

Long story short, is that everybody everywhere uses computers. Humans do not evolve backwards so computers will now play a major roll in our existence. What I am suggesting is that you use your computer to your advantage now before the rest of the world catches on.

If you are currently paying for cable then you may be paying $50-$100 dollars too much each and every month. You could be paying $600-1,200 per year too much. There are ways out there to get your entertainment a lot cheaper then you currently are paying.

Lets talk about how to start saving your money now. One way to get rid of cable and the need to go to a movie store is to sign up for Netflix. Utilizing Netflix.com is about one of the smartest things that I have done in the last two years. Netflix.com charges me roughly $9.50 a month after taxes and they allow me to rent one movie at a time. They also include in that nine dollar package unlimited online video streaming.

The movies in the mail is a really sweet deal considering you will cycle through at least 15 movies since each one takes 2 days to process. If you watch the movies the day the get there and send it back you will get another one a day later. On average I watch at least 15 movies a month via Netflix through my regular snail mail. (Post office) If you calculate that up you will see how the savings are already taking a toll.
15 movies at roughly $4.00 a piece is around $60.00 dollars you will spend a month. I get them all for $10.00 dollars a month.
Here is what makes this setup even greater. I currently purchase only laptops starting a couple of years ago. The computer companies are creating the laptops so powerful that an average user wouldn't need to get a desktop computer anymore. These new machines are coming out for only $300-$400 dollars a piece. (Way cheaper then when the microwave first came out!) I have taken the time to get an extra computer monitor cord that is about 12' in length. I also purchased an audio cable that plugs into my computer and then into a monitor or high definition T.V.

Yeah, you may have guessed what I am about to tell you. I turn my laptop into a desk top right there in my living room using my 40" HD T.V. Now that I have portability I can watch Netflix.com online right there in my living room. So now, I get to watch millions of movies whenever I want with no limit. No downloads or anything. So now, I get to have cable that is totally On Demand, and I also get roughly 15 movies in the mail a month. (This Netflix.com deal just turned into our cable company here at my house)

This is only a fraction of the puzzle. There are other cable television providers that you can get that does not cost you a penny. The biggest one, in my opinion, would have to be Hulu.com. This website has an agreement with the cable guys so that they can stream the active seasons without getting shut down for infringement rights. The only deal is that the episodes are 5 episodes behind the actual episodes on the cable companies roster. This was a slight deal at first, but once you convert over from cable and get into the flow of things it becomes less and less of a deal. The fatter my wallet got the less I cared about how long I had to wait to see the latest episode of True Blood. I know that if I wait long enough I can either watch it on Hulu, or online via Netflix, or ultimately I can just order the entire season from Netflix and watch it all night long in one whack. (I love doing this because you do not miss a detail at all!)

Another way to get instant media is to utilize YouTube services. This is a great source for video episodes and music videos. When my friends come over I turn on YouTube and let one of my playlist run in the back ground. That way if they want they can watch the music video or they can simply listen to the music. There are many more options out there, but this is all that I have for you for right now. I will post more details as I gather them.

Welcome To My Blog | How To Use It

Labels:

I would like to say thank you for visiting my blog. If you found this site via a search engine then congratulations. You will no longer need to search the web for what you are looking for. Go ahead and bookmark this blog because you will be using it often. I have many ways to save your own money during this economy crisis. The more money that you save now the more money you will be able to save later.

Some people are worried about our economy and many are not. Some people say that the America's will be experiencing hardship for a long time. I myself have noticed how much our money has watered down over the last ten years. You could go to Mexico and purchase a 20 oz bottle of Pepsi for 12 cents a decade ago. Now, if you were to waltz down to the border and get the same 20 oz bottle of Pepsi it would cost you $1.55. (These numbers are not entirely accurate, but I am just trying to get my point across.)

You will notice that I will be talking about many different methods to make or save your money. All that I ask in return is that you spread the good word if I helped you. Yeah, it is that simple. The best type of advertising is word of mouth. My ultimate goal is to help America to save millions of dollars a month and to slowly climb out of this recession that we are all experiencing. The only way I can do this is if you all help me to help you.

This is all that I have for right now, and as you can see this is only the beginning. Lets work together to save our great country and to save our great world.
